BGV-Versicherung AG

The insurance group BGV / Badische Versicherungen, based in Karlsruhe, offers comprehensive insurance cover to private and corporate customers from all over Germany. The renovation of its main building has significantly improved its energy efficiency and upgraded its interior. Around 500 employees have moved into a new working environment that is optimised for communication and exchange with open room structures. Comprehensive acoustic measures on the ceiling, walls and in the furniture facilitate working in the open spaces, while think tanks and various space-defining furnishing solutions allow employees to enjoy privacy and have access to areas for concentrated work.

All the employees can decide for themselves at the sit-stand desks the postures they wish to adopt while working. For meetings and teamwork there are sufficient separate spaces in different sizes available. Visitors to the BGV are warmly welcomed at the large attractive reception counter on the ground floor. A new company restaurant at which employees can dine together at lunchtime has an attractive outdoor area. This together with the large hall, which before the conversion work featured an escalator that led up to the upper floors, is set to become an attractive event area for internal as well as external cultural events.

In 2013, the main building was awarded a prize for exemplary construction. The jury based its decision on a number of criteria, including the external design, size and proportions of the building, internal spatial formation, allocation of rooms and functionality, appropriateness of the means and materials, structural integrity, interposition and the handling of the urban context and the environment.
