ARTE

Sustainable building use at the SWR site

The ARTE television channel has been based in Baden-Baden since 1991. As its headquarters in the city centre no longer met current requirements, a new working environment was created in the so-called "Haus des Fernsehens" (House of Television) on the SWR premises on the Baden-Baden Funkhöhe. The building was completely renovated and redesigned by SWR Gebäudemanagement for the cultural broadcaster. ARTE and architect Alexandra Paulsen of SWR Gebäudemanagement were inspired by the various workstation concepts and system partition solutions on show at the feco-forum in Karlsruhe.

In particular, the frameless, flush fecostruct wood structural glazing, with its natural character of oak veneer in the space between the panes, impressed clients and users alike. ARTE’s new working environment is characterised by openness and transparency. The floor-to-ceiling glass elements extend the surrounding Black Forest into the central zones. Meeting rooms are arranged in zones around the open team areas, creating acoustically separated areas. This creates good room acoustics without restricting the desired openness. Even in the more closed spaces, the rooms of varying depth have been arranged in such a way that the access areas remain exciting through the protrusions and recesses of the rooms, avoiding the monotonous impression of long corridors. The exposed edges of the rooms are designed as structural glazing corners with mitred glass edges, and the oak veneer surface in the space between the panes adds to the high quality feel of the space. The flush-fitted wooden doors on the corridor side, with concealed frames, are also finished in oak veneer with a horizontal grain and slotted at 14/2 mm intervals. The closed wall surfaces are structured as Fecowand solid walls with horizontal black organisation profiles. Acoustically effective and pinnable felt panels, slotted wall panels as integrated Fecophon absorbers with 14/2 mm slots or 3/3/1 mm micro-perforations reduce reverberation times and improve room acoustics.

ARTE Deutschland TV GmbH now has an ideal working environment after moving into the newly designed and refurbished areas on the SWR site. feco system walls have been used to create an ideal, high-quality and long-term working environment for the fifty employees. The existing “House of Television” will continue to be used sensibly in the sense of sustainability. ARTE’s media professionals will find a new home in the immediate vicinity of SWR at the foot of the Fremersberg.
