VBL. Pension Institution of the State and the Federal States
Modern workplace forms and innovative office spatial concepts
The Versorgungsanstalt des Bundes und Länder (VBL) is the largest supplementary pension provider for occupational pensions in the public sector in Germany. Around 900 VBL employees work in its six buildings in Hans-Thoma-Straße/Moltkestraße, and since 2018, the entire building ensemble has been modernised. The refurbishment is intended to enable modern workplace forms and innovative office spatial concepts while preserving the character of the buildings, some of which are steeped in history. The first building was constructed as far back as 1821, while in the 1950s, VBL erected two more buildings. The complex was supplemented with a fourth building in 1971 and a fifth in 1990/93. The construction of the "Casino", the canteen building, in 2011 rounded off the VBL campus. As part of the modernisation, all the employees will receive ergonomic work chairs, as well as sit-stand desks for dynamic and healthy working. Ideal spatial concepts will be found for every building type and corresponding use – from individual offices and cell structures to team areas and central zones. In each building, modern kitchenettes will be available to employees as retreat areas or for spontaneous interaction. Renovation of the campus is set to be completed by 2023.
