Acoustically-effective wall surfaces play an important role in connection with sustainably planned office buildings. Concrete core-tempered ceilings eliminate the need for suspended ceilings as sound-absorbing surfaces. In this sound-reflecting environment, system walls take on the task of sound absorption. feco has successfully tested acoustically-effective wall panels with felt surfaces in the reverberation room with regard to absorption properties.

By reducing the reverberation times in the frequency spectrum of human speech, speech intelligibility improves and the resulting acoustics are perceived as pleasant. Unlike perforated, slotted or micro-perforated surfaces, the felt surface does not produce a stressful moiré effect. Besides the felt-covered acoustic panels, the feco system wall also offers numerous other solutions under the term fecophon.

Room acoustics determine work quality.

The fabric-covered fecophon wall panels achieve an absorption coefficient αw of 0.85 with both a 40-mm wall construction and just 20-mm insulation. With a wall thickness of 105 mm, this enables sound insulation values of up to Rw,P approx. 48 dB with a single-sided acoustically-effective surface and 47 dB with a double-sided acoustically-effective surface, despite perforated wall surfaces. The felt surface made of synthetic needlefelt is applied to an MDF carrier board with perforation and acoustic fleece lamination on the back. In this way the surface can also be used as a pinboard. The panels are installed flush with the wall, like normal wall panels, with continuous steel retaining strips applied to the back. The design enables the non-destructive relocatability of the system partition wall.

The wide range of colours of the available felt surfaces offers great design scope. For the ErlebnisReich in the feco-forum, feco at the request of the interior designer laminated the felts in the form of sand dunes, so that they appear to be part of the design theme.
